1. Knowing your hair type

Now fellas, it is really important that you know what your hair type is in order to pull off the Perfect Hairstyle. Ya'll need to understand the fact that every hair type has it's own potential and therefore can be styled accordingly, so not every hair type is able to achieve every hairstyle. There are basically four hair types:

Straight Hair

Straight hair grows out straight in the outward direction without any bending or curves. However, you can expect minor curves once you start to grow out your hair i.e approximately above 6 inches of hair length.

Straight Hair

With straight hair you can easily shape and style your hairstyle. Plus, you have got tons of hairstyle options to choose from. But my friend, straight hair royally sucks at maintaining volume!. You will often see men with straight hair struggling for real to keep their hair up and going crazy with hair dryers, hair sprays and what not.

Wavy Hair

Wavy hair resembles the shape of waves when grown out. Wavy hair is often mistaken for straight hair when it's quite short (1.5 inches or less). Therefore, I recommend you to grow out your hair at 3 inches which is considered as the ideal length to recognize your hair type. At, 3 inches wavy hair follicles take the so called "S" shape.

Wavy Hair

Wavy hair is often considered as the ideal hair type for men. It is easy to style like straight hair and still maintains enough volume like coiled or curly hair. It requires less maintenance and has variety of hairstyle options. At longer length, you get to see amazing luscious locks.

Curly Hair

The hair follicles in this hair type form round and curly patterns. Curly hair has higher density than straight and wavy hair. It gets tangled quickly and is generally frizzy.

Curly Hair

This hair type requires almost zero maintenance. However, it's quite a struggle when it comes to managing or styling your hair. Most of the times you will need to straighten or blow dry your hair to improve hair styling options.

Kinky Hair

It is also referred to as Coiled Hair. Kinky hair has wire like spongy structure. It generally appears to be dry. It is the curliest of all the hair types. Coiled hair forms curls even at a very short length. It is the hair type with most volume.

Kinky Hair

You can really shape things up due to its resilient nature. Forget about using hair styling products if you have coiled hair, because they don't have much role to play. However, it can take a while if you consider to grow out your hair really long compared to other types.

2. Hair Thickness and Hair Density

Hair Thickness

Hair Thickness refers to size of the hair follicle. It is measured in diameters. Higher the diameter, thicker the hair. While every man dreams of having thick hair, it is more prone to breakage compared to thin hair. Thin hair on the other hand can have better hair strength.

Hair Density

Part your hair from middle using a comb. If you see more scalp, you have less hair density and vice versa for denser hair. Hair density is often mistaken for hair thickness. While hair density can seem desirable, it is really hard to manage dense hair. You will need to consider shearing your hair during every haircut just to make the hair and its styling more manageable.

3. Cowlick

Cowlick is present at the top back of your head and looks like a spiral. It gives your hair its natural direction. One can have more than one cowlick. Cowlicks can make or break your hair game, so it is quite important to understand their growth pattern.

Double Cowlick

If you style the hair against the cowlick, the hair in this region is more likely to stick out especially when your hair is short. But, just by playing around with hair length and its growth direction you can achieve a considerable volume and use cowlick for your advantage.
